Chantel O’Brian captured the title of Miss World Bahamas 2015 and represented the country at the Miss World pageant on December 19, 2015 in Sanya, China.
Chantel O’Brian is not a quitter. When she captured the title of Miss World Bahamas on September 13, it was not her first or even second attempt at the crown. This was Chantel’s third time around in as many years and for her the old saying “third time’s a charm” proved true. She genuinely wept when her name was called as the new queen, and it took quite some effort for her to pull herself together to take her first walk as Miss World Bahamas.
“After so many tries and so many disappointments, those were tears of sheer joy,” she says. “My dream had finally come true.”
Chantel credits her mother – who also happens to be her best friend, confidant, and inspiration – with encouraging her to give it one more try. Looking back, she is glad that she did.
C. S. Lewis once said “Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny.” This has certainly been the case for Chantel.
She comes from a very humble background and says that the struggles that she endured prepared her for some of the greatest moments in her life, including capturing the Miss World Bahamas crown. Her attitude toward hardship and adversity are simple – when life gives you more than you can stand, kneel.
Chantel is a very spiritual person and is actively involved in her church’s youth movement. She is also the brand ambassador for the Sir Victor Sassoon Bahamas Heart Foundation which raises money for children with heart defects. Chantel spearheaded Fashion for Relief, a runway show from which all proceeds were donated to those students who were severely impacted by Hurricane Joaquin. She has also championed the cause of Lupus Awareness. She was also the first recipient of the Myles Munroe Beauty with a Purpose scholarship, donated by the Ruth and Myles Munroe Foundation. As a testament of her philanthropy, she was nominated for the 2016 Bahamas Icon Awards under the People’s Choice category.
